SWE is the driving force in support of Women in Engineering and Technology careers. The Societyâs ability to exist is dependent on the energy and passion of the members who volunteer their time to support SWEâs mission and vision. At the Society and local levels there are many opportunities to volunteer for what matters to you and learn important business skills that can be transferred to your career.
At the local level, SWE Tucson has standing committee needs for Awards & Recognition, Communications, Membership, Networking, Outreach, Professional Development, and Scholarship. If you like to participate in SWE Tucson activities or would like to see more offerings, than consider volunteering for these committees to help plan events that interest you. More information on local committees is available in the Call for Committees section of the SWE Tucson website.
At the Society level there are opportunities to participate on 15 different committees. More information about each of these committees is available in the All Together article Listen and Learn About SWE Committees from March 2018.
The Society will issue a call for committee participation via e-mail to the membership in May/June each year. The Committee chair will contact interested parties to discuss their interest in the committeeâs work. Each committee will hold meetings as needed, typically monthly, via a conference call, to conduct the Society business that is included in their charter. At the Annual WE conference, there is a committee meetup for those in attendance. This is a great networking opportunity to meet with SWE members from across the society.
I personally have participated on the Awards & Recognition, Finance, and Program Development Grant committees over the past 5 years. The time commitment does vary and committee chairs understand that it is not always possible for people to attend every meeting. I have enjoyed my time learning about SWE operations, networking with SWE members across the country, and contributing to SWEâs mission.

Cheers,
