Welcome SWE Tucson to our new Fiscal Year 2020. It is hard to believe but the next decade in this century is just a few months away! On Saturday 24 Aug, I had the pleasure of working with our SWE Exec Council and Committee chairs to develop a plan for the upcoming year. As I look at the calendar of events, I am excited to see new opportunities for STEM outreach and some fun networking events.
The Outreach committee is partnering with SARSEF and their events Racing the Sun, STEM Adventure and the Future Innovators Night. These programs are excellent opportunities to highlight what engineering is about and the possibilities for their future. Check out the Upcoming Events for more details about these programs. The Outreach team is also partnering with the GS for STEM Badges in a day.
The Networking Committee is bringing back the Relax, Unwind, & Network (RUN) events from years past. A happy hour is being planned for September, an evening at the theater for October, a UA Football game for November and a Holiday Breakfast in December. In January, we will have our 3rd annual membership brunch where we can celebrate the new year. Watch your e-mail for more details on these events as they are developed.
The Awards & Recognition committee is ready to announce the call for nominations for the Distinguished Member and the Outstanding Engineer award to recognize members and women engineers in the Tucson area for their accomplishments and support of community. The winners will be recognized at the Fall Professional Development event which is being planned as a Friday evening dinner with speaker. So be thinking about who you should recognize and submit their nomination.
And the Scholarship committee will be accepting applications for the collegiate scholarships until 1 November with plans to announce the scholarship recipients in December. If you know a college student who could use some extra funds, direct them to the scholarship application so they can submit their application.
The last 4 months of the decade, 2019, are going to be busy! And then 2020 will bring a whole new set of fun things to do. Watch your e-mail and website for more information.
